UAE Satellite ‘Falcon Eye 2’ launched into Space to mark UAE’s 49th National Day – December 02nd, 2020

UAE’s latest satellite Falcon Eye 2 lifted off into space on a Russian Soyuz ST-A rocket from French Guiana Space Centre, South America on December 02nd, 2020 at 0533am UAE time.

It is now the 4th reconnaissance satellite launched in the UAE.

The space craft will provide high-definition images from around the world for military and civilian use.

The 1,190 kilogram satellite was built by Airbus Defence & Space and Thales Alenia Space in Toulouse, France. The UAE Space Agency oversaw its development.

This was a part of the Falcon eye programme, where two identical satellites were built for the UAE Armed Forces.

The first was Falcon Eye 1 which was lost in space last year after the Italian Vega rocket that carried it failed.

2020 MENA Digital Awards (MDA) Winners : November 2020

The awards program has seven categories – performance, mobile, social media, digital assets, digital by sector, integrated, and special – and was open to all digital players throughout the Middle East and North Africa region.

This year, FP7 dominated the winners’ list with a total of five awards across four categories, followed by Netizency with four awards, and UM with three.

Al Ahly Wins the 20th CAF African Championship League : November 2020

 A late goal from Mohamed ‘Afsha’ Magdy gave Al-Ahly a dramatic 2-1 victory over Zamalek on November 27th, which turned out to be an an all-Egyptian CAF Champions League2019-20 final in the Cairo International Stadium.

Amr el Soleya had give Al-Ahly an early lead and ‘Shikabala’ scored a magnificient equaliser before half time.

 Record for Al Ahly : The win extended Al-Ahly’s record number of wins in Africa’s elite club competition to nine.

Record for the South African coach: Al-Ahly’s win meant SA coach Pitso Mosimane became only the third coach after Argentine Oscar Fullone and Egyptian Mahmoud el Gohary to win the Champions League title with two clubs.

Dorsaf Ganouti became the first woman to make history in Tunisia by refereeing a top division men’s Tunisian league match in the city of Radee.

  • She is one of the three Tunisian women on FIFA’s list of International Referees

Bahrain’s Deena Rahman Breaks World Record in Football for ‘Taking The Most Penalties in 24 Hours : November 18th, 2020

Deena Rahman, Bahrain’s National Team mid-fielder breaks the World Record in Football for ‘Taking the Most Penalites in 24 Hours’.

Deena Rahman hammered home 7,876 penalties including facing 24 female goal-keepers, at the Kick Off Academy in Saar – smashing the previous record as a part of 2020’s Equal Playing Field’s (EPF)

.The challenge started on November 17th at 7am and ended 24-hours later at 7am on November 18th coinciding with Guinness World Record Day.

The previous record was held by Vickrant Mahajan in 24 hours with 1,111 penalties.

This was the 5th Guinness World Record held by Deena Rahman.

Female Emirati Adventurer-Traveller Breaks World Record. ‘Around the World in 3 Days ‘ – Dr. Khawla Al Romaithi: 2020

Dr Khawla Al Romaithi travelled the world solo, across the 7 continents and broke the world record for ‘fastest time to travel all seven continents’ .

The whole trip took 3 days, 14 hours, 46 minutes and 48 seconds. Her epic travel journey ended in Sydney, Australia on February 13th, 2020.

The record was announced on the occasion of Guinness World Records Day. The journey was in sync with this years’ theme ‘Discover Your World’.

Dr. Khawla Al Romaithi’s record broke the previous record achieved by Kacey Stewart and Julie Berry (both of USA) on December 2017.
