Morocco Wins Gold : 28th Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad : May 24th, 2021

For the second year in a row Morocco wins at the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad held in Tunisia.

28th Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) hosted virtually in Tunisia on May 23-24. 

The PAMO the annual competition consists of two 4.5 hour rounds and participants must answer three questions per round. The event challenged students to answer advanced calculus and trigonometry questions.

Students from 14 countries including Angola, Botswana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Togo, Tunisia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Republic of the Congo, and Zimbabwe competed in the event.

Over 60 high school students representing their home countries attended the virtual event with Morocco’s El Ibbaoui Mohamed and Achak Abderrahmane coaching the team to victory.

The organization crowned Beni Mellal’s Aya Akargout the “Queen of African Mathematics 2021” after her gold medal win alongside Marrakech’s Youssef Bouhtouch. 

In addition, Morocco’s Mohammed Ayoub, Adam Kharraz, Hiba Benabou, and Asmae Hibat Allah won silver medals. 

All of the students are members of Morocco’s national mathematics team operating under the Ministry of Education.

Oman’s Dr. Amal Bint Saif Wins Sasakawa Health Prize 2021 : May 2021

Dr. Amal bint Saif al-Maani, Director of Department of Infection Prevention, Ministry of Health.

Dr. Amal Bint Saif received the prestigious Sasakawa Health Prize 2021, awarded by the World Health Organization for boosting awareness of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of Hand Hygiene.

Ministry of Health said: “The Executive Council of the World Health Organisation announced the winning of Dr. Amal Bint Saif, a consultant in infectious diseases for children and infection control and director of the Department of Infection Prevention and Control of the General Directorate for Disease Control and Control at the Ministry of Health.

“To help combat antimicrobial resistance, Dr Al Maani engaged in the national project “Be Role Model for Hand Hygiene” as part of her advocacy work for HandHygiene in the community and health care settings in Oman,” WHO added

Egypt’s Dr.Hala Zayed Elected as Chair of Arab Health Ministers Council : May 2021

Egypt’s Minister of Health Dr. Hala Zayed was elected as the Chair of the Executive Office of the Health Ministers Council at the Arab League for the second time in a row.

Hala Zayed is the second female minister in the history of the Health Ministry since its establishment in 1937.

She has a PhD and Master’s in Business Administration from the Arab Academy of Science and Technology. She also obtained a diploma in Hospitals Administration from the AUC. She has a Master’s degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her medical degree MBBS from The University of Zagazig.

Saudi Girl Ritaj Al-Hazmi, 12, World’s Youngest Novel Series Author by Guinness : May 2021

A young girl from Saudi Arabia has broken the Guinness World Record to become the globe’s youngest writer of a novel series.

Ritaj Alhazmi, 12, has published a series of three English-language novels, two of which came out before her last birthday.

She has been awarded for her Treasure of the Lost Sea series, which includes the novels Treasure of the Lost SeaPortal of the Hidden World and Beyond the Future World.

In the third book, she explored the genre of science-fiction. “I introduce new creatures and robots. I also include travelling through worlds,’ she explains.
