Hend Zaza – at 12, Syrian – Makes History , Youngest Athlete at Tokyo Olympics : – July 2021

Hend Zaza (aka) Hend Abdul Rauf Zaza – Table Tennis Star.

She qualified to play in the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021 in Tokyo, through the West Asia Olympic qualifying tournament held in Jordan in 2020. 

At the age of 12, she was the youngest person to compete in Olympic table tennis, and the fifth-youngest person to compete in the modern Olympics. 

She was the youngest competitor at the 2020 games, and the youngest Olympic competitor since Beatrice Hustiu, a Romanian figure-skater who competed in 1968.

She plays for the Al-Muhafaza Table Tennis Club in Damascus and has won national titles at all levels: hopes, cadets, junior and senior.

‘Emirati Day on December 02nd’ Declared by New York State, USA : 2021

New York state has named December 2, 2021, Emirati Day in recognition of the country’s golden jubilee.

Adopted on June 2, Senate Resolution No 980 stated that “this legislative body declares December 2, 2021, as Emirati Day in New York state.”

Dubai-born New York state senator Kevin Thomas put forward the resolution.

Global Village Dubai Breaks its 25th Guinness World Record – ‘Highest Altitude Fireworks’ : May 2021

Global Village teamed up with Skydive Dubai to break a new Guinness World Record title, with 20 skydivers jumping from an altitude of more than 4,570 metres, lighting the skies with 78 fireworks, representative of the 78 cultures that were present at Global Village during its 25th season.

 Visitors were treated to a rare and spectacular showcase, as the venue celebrated its silver jubilee season finale.

The initiative was in line with Global Village’s aim to break 25 Guinness World Records over the course of its 25th season, which ran from October 25 to May 2.

The stunt broke the Guinness World Record title for “highest altitude fireworks display”.

DEWA Wins 2020 Middle East and Africa Renewable Deal of the Year Award

 Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won the ‘2020 Middle East and Africa Renewables Deal of the Year’ from Project Finance International (PFI) magazine for the photovoltaic 5th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. PFI magazine, a subsidiary of Thomson Reuters, focuses on tracking and analysing projects, financial budgets and project deals worldwide.

The solar park is the largest single-site solar park in the world with a planned production capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030″

The fifth phase is to provide clean energy to 270,000 residences in Dubai. This will reduce 1.18 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The project is due for commissioning in stages starting Q3 of 2021.

Qatar to Remain World’s Largest LNG Exporter

Currently, Qatar is the largest LNG exporter, and it is working to increase its liquefaction capacity to 126 mtpa (million tonnes per annum) by 2027.

Post-2027, a further 55 mtpa of speculative LNG projects remain to be completed.

It is forecast that Qatar will maintain its position as the top LNG exporter in the world by 2050,” noted the 5th edition of ‘Global Gas Outlook 2050’ by GECF. 

Qatar along with Iran will contribute significantly in the growth of natural gas production in the Middle East, noted a report released by Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) yesterday.

Abu Dhabi Mina Plaza Demolishing Enters Guinness World Records. Gone in 10 secs : December 2020

MODON Properties, Abu Dhabi based integrated master-developer claimed a Guinness World Record title for controlled demolition of a 165.032m tall building, making it the ‘Tallest building demolished using explosives 13,227 pounds (6,000 kg) , all safely carried out.

A total of 144-floors, the 4-high rise towers were demolished in approximately 10-seconds through a controlled imploding using non-primary explosives placed in 18,000 drill holes within the structure.

Egypt’s Tahya Misr Fund Breaks the Record for the ‘World’s Largest Humanitarian Aid Convoy : December 2020

Egypt’s Tahya Misr Fund sets a new record for the World’s Largest Aid Convoy with 470 trucks carrying food and other essentials on behalf of ‘The Long Live Egypt Fund’.

The Record was certified by Guinness World Records.

The convoy set off on November 20th, 2020 to poor villages in the 27 Egyptian governorates to distribute food. It had 1 million cartons of foodstuffs, 2,000 tons of poultry, 1 million blankets, over 500,000 items of clothing, 1,500 dialysis machines to serve 120,000 patients and 1,000 wheel chairs for distribution.

The cost of the ‘The Long Live Egypt Fund’ initiative had reached EGP 1 billion (USD 63.88 million) and is dedicated to serving 1 million citizens.

The previous record holder was the Netherlands with 416 trucks since 2004.

Bahrain’s Deena Rahman Breaks World Record in Football for ‘Taking The Most Penalties in 24 Hours : November 18th, 2020

Deena Rahman, Bahrain’s National Team mid-fielder breaks the World Record in Football for ‘Taking the Most Penalites in 24 Hours’.

Deena Rahman hammered home 7,876 penalties including facing 24 female goal-keepers, at the Kick Off Academy in Saar – smashing the previous record as a part of 2020’s Equal Playing Field’s (EPF)

.The challenge started on November 17th at 7am and ended 24-hours later at 7am on November 18th coinciding with Guinness World Record Day.

The previous record was held by Vickrant Mahajan in 24 hours with 1,111 penalties.

This was the 5th Guinness World Record held by Deena Rahman.
